Can I rescue this batch?

Well, I followed this recipe to the teeth, except that I was out of lemon or lime juice, so I used orange juice instead. I cooked the concoction for exactly 25 minutes, then took it off the heat. I set the timer for the 15 minutes the recipe said for letting it cool. When I came back, my mixture was hard as a rock! I reheated it, breaking the chunks as I went with a spoon. I also added a little more water to it, hoping it would prevent the mixture from solidifying again. Which it did; I checked it this morning and it is soft, but it's too soft now, and it's sticky. Can I save this batch somehow, or should I try again?

Why is everyone trying to save a batch???

It is just sugar and lemon juice. It can't be more than a dollar to make this. Throw it out and start over.
