Depilatory cream is a chemical hair removal product which dissolves the hair at or just below the surface of the skin.

These products are good for fine, light colored hair.

Although they do work on coarse, dark hair, the results are similar to shaving.

Hair regrowth is visible anywhere from a few hours to a few days after application depending on your individual growth rate.

Available at most drugstores, these products are fairly inexpensive and come in different formulas depending on the area you'll be applying to. Buy the correct product for maximum effectiveness.

Tips for Safe Use

Apply to a small area first and if your skin is sensitive, apply an oil based moisturizer first to create a barrier. It is suggested to wear gloves for this hair removal method.

I've personally found the cream much more difficult to apply with gloved hands. However, it is a chemical solution so it's a good idea to mind the manufacturers instructions for your own safety.

Use old washcloths and towels. Apply in an area where you won't damage surrounding surfaces with spills. I've found sitting on the edge of the bathtub good when applying to bikini or legs.

Make sure you've got a timer or there is a clock visible. The ingredients work according to very specific timing. Leaving it on the skin too long can cause chemical burns. Rinse with cool to warm water, not hot.
