Its not turning amber colored!

I'm doing exactly as it says but the wax stuff is a clear color not an amber color???!!!!

More heat?

I suspect you need to turn the heat up a bit. It should be medium/high to get the cooking action that you need. Then you can turn it down a bit and simmer it, but not too low! There should be LOTS of bubbles the entire cooking time. HTH!
