Simple Practices to Minimize Breakouts

To help prevent acne, it's important to consider ways that your skin is exposed to breakout causing bacteria.

Then eliminate as many of those sources as possible.

These are a few of the habits I've been working on establishing since getting serious about improving my skin.

Making these small changes (along with finally trying Proactiv) has put an end to my ongoing breakout frustrations...

  • Clean makeup brushes. This is a must to rid them of bacteria. Learn how to mix up a simple cleaning solution and see the process I use for cleaning makeup brushes.

  • Try using mineral makeup. It's made with purifying minerals from the earth which help dry out blemishes.

Mineral based concealers do double duty, hiding your breakouts and providing 'mineral therapy' to speed healing. Win-win.

The exact product I use is pictured right. I don't use the wand that's included directly on my skin though. I sweep it off the wand onto a concealer brush and apply it with the brush.
  • Use fresh washcloths each time you cleanse your skin.

Eliminate bacteria on your washcloths by laundering them in hot water.

Add a touch of essential oil in the wash cycle or on a small damp cloth in the dryer.

Many essential oils have antibacterial properties. Lavender is my favorite for laundry.

  • Change your pillowcase frequently no less than once a week. Every few days is better. Wash in hot water, using essential oils (if desired), as with washcloths.

  • Avoid touching your face with your fingers. The natural oils from your skin and any bacteria that has accumulated on your fingers is easily transferred to your facial skin.
