Identifying Your Skin Type

Below are the 4 basic skin types with details on the characteristics of each.

Within each of these types there is the consideration of whether your skin is normal or sensitive.

Sensitive skin is prone to itchiness and irritation usually as result of adverse reactions to cosmetics and cleansing products.

Identify your type so you can take the best care possible of your skin.

NORMAL

Normal skin has good elasticity and an even tone. The pores are evenly sized and the skin is not prone to excess oil.

DRY

Generally dry in appearance, this skin type is prone to flaking patches and a feeling of tightness. Itching is also common with dry skin.

OILY

Oily skin is obvious by the look and the feel of a sheen on the surface. It is also prone to enlarged pores, blemishes, blackheads, redness, and blotchiness as a result of overactive sebaceous glands.

COMBINATION

Often oily in the t-zone (forehead and down the nose and chin) and normal on the cheeks. This is the most challenging type to treat because the different characteristics require different treatment.

Time takes a toll on skin

The condition of your skin can be influenced by the following factors:

  • hormones
  • medications
  • environmental factors
  • sun exposure
  • genetics
  • health issues
  • cleansing and cosmetic regimes
