sticks to my skin

by Ayla

I have not been able to make a paste that doesn't stick to my skin. When I try to pull it off, most of it is left sitting on my skin and only washing it off will remove it. I have made the recipe according to your directions, using a candy thermometer to help determine done-ness. Do you have any suggestions for ridiculously sticky sugar paste?

Use the Cold water test
by: Anonymous

When preparting the sugar paste, use the cold water test to find out the right consistency.
Basically, when your mixture starts turning honey colored, take a bowl of cold water (not room temperature so put ice in it) and drop a few drops of the sugar paste in. The water should cool off the liquid immediately. Gather the sugar in your hand and play with it to see if it's at firm ball stage. At firm ball stage, you should be able to make a ball out of the sugar and play with it, and it should be able to hold its shape.

When using the sugar, if you find you skin is warming it up too fast, try running a bag of ice cubes over it. This should harden the sugar back up.
