Vinegar = fail

I didn't have any lemon juice on hand, so I tried this recipe with vinegar and it evaporated more quickly than I think the lemon juice might have. The apartment smells like acrid burnt sugar and I have a pot of vinegar ribbon candy. For the record, it tastes like sushi-flavored caramel. Stick to the lemon--it's much nicer!

I didn't have lemon juice either. So I use the vinegar and for the first time I didn't burn it!! I have tried many times to perfect this wax without a candy thermometer, and I always cook it too long. I also only have black pans so seeing the color is hard. But I always use vinegar, it does stink, but after numerous tries I did it! And it worked fine.

LOL! Ew, that doesn't sound pleasant. But thanks so much for not only testing it out, but coming back and sharing your results! I've removed any mention of vinegar from the article. I do hope you'll give it another try with lemon juice!
