Water Aerobics Equipment

The New Wave In Gentle Exercise

Water aerobics equipment provides a low impact exercise, which is ideal for those with arthritis, sore joints, or a pre-existing injury of any kind.

Improve your fitness, lose weight, and even ease the effects of your condition. The gentle nature of aqua aerobics is also great for pregnancy exercise.

There are several kinds of water aerobics equipment. From belts that enable you to jog in the water, to water specific barbells and ankle weights, to aqua gloves to noodles. Each piece of equipment enables you to make the most of your time in the swim.

The Benefits

As in all aerobic exercise, you'll benefit from using your water aerobics equipment by burning fat and building your endurance. Aqua aerobics is great for all fitness levels, helps to strengthen your heart, and it will also build strength as the water provides resistance in all directions.

Other benefits from using aqua aerobics equipment include:

Specific Exercises For Water Aerobics Equipment

This depends on the piece(s) of equipment that you chose. There are a variety of books and videos that you can purchase with your equipment to get the full benefits. Alternatively, you can also choose to join in a water aerobics class. You're limited only by your imagination.

A flotation belt will allow you to jog in the water. You can also do exercises like kicking your leg to touch your outstretched hand, or leg scissoring on the spot. Using weights with a flotation belt, you can punch your hands down by your side, or out in front, or even do dumbbell curls as you would on land.

You can even work your abs - in an upright position, bring your knees to your chest, bracing your abs, and then slowly move them back down.

Brands & Pricing

The AquaJogger - a buoyancy belt that suspends you in the water at shoulder height for jogging. Available online from around $50 depending on the size. You can also purchase AquaRunners for around $30 to increase the intensity.

The Wave Belt by Hydrofit is available from $40. It comes in standard and small torso sizes.

Noodles range in price from around $15 - $40, depending on the size. AquaJogger make a noodle called the Sqoodle.

Gloves and aqua hand weights can range anywhere from $20 to $50. The price is dependent upon the size, shape and style. Both Hydrofit and AquaJogger have a large range.

The Warnings

You're going to have to wear a swimsuit of some kind to put your water aerobics equipment to use! However, the water will provide you with more privacy - once you're in there - than any aerobics room ever will. Invest in a good towel or sarong for a more flattering trip to and from the change rooms.

For those with existing injuries or who need to take a little more care in their choice of exercise equipment, using water aerobics equipment is the perfect choice. You can increase the effectiveness of non-impact water exercise by using the available equipment without fear of injuring yourself further.
